EV rankings

Top 24 ranked EVs under $40,000

Best EVs Under $40,000 in the USA

Compare electric cars under $40,000 in the USA by EPA range and BEVDB estimate, charging speed, usable battery, efficiency, practicality, and budget score. Only current model-year EVs and adjacent model years are eligible for this ranking.

Why these cars rank

Cars are first limited to models with known starting prices at or below $40,000. They are ranked with a weighted budget score: range 35%, fast charging 25%, efficiency 20%, practicality 10%, and price headroom 10%. Only current model-year EVs and adjacent model years are eligible for this ranking.

Higher range, faster charging, lower consumption, and stronger practicality lift the score. Cars priced further below the cap get a small value boost, but the ranking still favors balanced EVs over the absolute cheapest entries.
