USA EV money economy

Compare up to three USA EVs with one shared charging-cost setup.

Methodology: how BEVDB estimate labels and source boundaries work

What this output is based on: car specs stay tied to official source values, BEVDB estimate labels are used where modeled EV behavior is involved, prices and annual-distance fields are user inputs, the ICE benchmark and comparison defaults are tool assumptions, and outputs stay unavailable when the source basis is not strong enough. See Data Sources or Contact.

Units: EV kWh/100 mi, ICE mpg, savings $/100 mi

How This Calculator Works

This tool estimates annual EV charging energy and cost, then compares EV ownership cost against ICE using your distance, fuel, insurance, and maintenance assumptions.

Core assumptions

EV energy is calculated in kWh/100 mi and converted to yearly battery energy from annual distance. Charging losses are applied to estimate wall energy from battery energy.

ICE fuel is calculated from mpg and fuel price, then combined with insurance and maintenance to build comparable annual totals.

About break-even metrics

Break-even prices show where EV and ICE annual ownership totals match. When break-even price is at or below zero, one side is always more expensive even at zero energy price.
