What Is a Frunk?
A frunk (front trunk) is a storage compartment located at the front of an electric vehicle (EV), where a traditional gasoline car would usually house its engine. Since EVs don't need large front-mounted engines, this space is often repurposed for extra cargo.
How Much Space Does It Offer?
The size of a frunk varies depending on the vehicle's design:
- Small EVs: May offer 10–50 liters (0.35–1.75 cu ft) of frunk space.
- Larger EVs and SUVs: Can have 100 liters (3.5 cu ft) or more.
- Some models: Do not include a frunk at all due to packaging or AWD drivetrain components.
Why It's Useful
- Great for storing charging cables, small bags, or groceries.
- Provides additional storage separate from the main trunk.
- Some frunks are water-resistant and washable, making them ideal for wet or dirty items.
